A Happy Place called Photoville!

Yesterday was the last day of summer! What a bummer!... But it's okay. Even though I am not in love with fall, there are many things to look forward to during that season. Last weekend, my boyfriend suggested that we spend our day with two of our closest friends, Andrew and Bianca. These two are amazing people with great personalities; so why not spend such a wonderful day with them.

In the heart of Dumbo, there we were, walking from cargo container to cargo container admiring the collections of photography create by emerging and established photographers. Each collection had a story to tell. Whether it was the happy days of being a child growing up in the seventies or a tragedy and the will power of perseverance that allowed the individual to overcome their struggle. Many of the photographic images resonated with me. Especially those that portrayed the effects of war and poverty.  I have always been sensitive when viewing people in need. That's why I am as charitable as I am.

Besides the photography, there are many photo opportunities available for you to experience at Photoville. I had a really lovely day there and you should check it out before it ends on September 28th, 2014.

This is what I wore for my day of fun.!

If you haven't heard of Modabox....You should get to know them!

Every year, we celebrate special occasions that required us to look our best. Whether it is a first date, company gala, or a night out on the town, at some point or another, we are faced with the challenge of what to wear.  We rack our brains, we get the opinions of our friends, or we refer to magazines and social media to decide what to wear. Why do that when you have Modabox to help you?

If you haven't heard of Modabox...You should get to know them! Modabox, created by Monica Phromsavanh, is a fashion forward women's retailer and online styling service that does not require a monthly subscription. Just create a style profile and 'Voila! With the budget and information you have provided, an expert stylist will curate accessorized outfits that is appropriate for your body type, lifestyle, and personality. Once your outfits are curated  by the expert stylist, it is shipped to your residence for you to try commitment free. The items you love, you keep! As for the items you are not interested in, ship it back with the prepaid label provided. It's that easy!  Visit www.moda-box.com for the ultimate shopping experience. Especially, those of you who dislike shopping!

Now, let me tell you about Modabox New York Fashion Week runway show. On September 3rd, 2014, with the South Street Seaport as their backdrop, Modabox had their first NYFW runway show showcasing their Fall 2014 Women's Collection and menswear from Frank DeBourge. The show started off with a musical performance by Lanz Pierce and a selection from the talented violinist, Filip Pogady.

As each model strutted down the runway, they rocked the outfit they wore! Transferring their high energy to the audience who cheered with great enthusiasm.

This parade of outfits demanded our attention. They screamed high fashion, sophistication,  and are easily identified as show stopping pieces.  Pieces, that many couldn't wait to get in their closets because they knew the meaning of being highly fashionable and feeling great while doing so.

As each look made its way up and down the runway, it was evident that Modabox was meticulous about the details that went into putting each look together.

There were looks displayed for every occasion you could possibly think of.

Overall, their first NYFW runway show was a success! Both, men and women collections were impressive. Modabox did a great job picking a memorable location, presenting an excellent Fall 2014 women's collection, and keeping their guests entertained with a photo booth to record their experience.

I will definitely look forward to Modabox next NYFW runway show! Thanks for reading and visit Moda-box.com!

4 Day Weekends Should Be The Norm!

Every since I was a child, I questioned the organization of our society's 7 day week. I've always wondered why we worked more than we played and believed that our work days should be shorter and our weekends longer. Unfortunately, me and a million other people who would like that will never see the day. However, today was Labor Day and it was an amazing day! While most either enjoyed a day at home, spent time with their family, or played at the park with their pet, I spent my day at the West Indian-American Day Carnival.

LaborDay2.jpg

My family and I are from Belize and I have been attending the West Indian-American Day Carnival from a small child. This is an annual event of our culture and my sister and I couldn't miss it.

You have choices when attending this event. You can attend as a spectator and watch the festivities unfold in front of you or you can attend as a participant in a "mas camp" short for masquerade camp.  These masquerade camps are created by various organizations within the community.

I've always wanted to play "mas" like this lovely young lady from the Dingolay Mas NYC camp. However, I've never had the chance to join a camp. (I definitely plan on joining one next year.) If you plan to be a spectator like me you have the alternative of buying hand made attire. I bought my Bealizean skirt and bandanna from the Flatbush Flea Market on Caton Avenue and Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn.

I had a wonderful day today on Eastern Parkway. I put together a cute outfit for the occasion, sang, danced, and enjoyed all the festivities associated with this carnival. If you have never attended the West Indian- American Day Carnival come on out!  You're truly missing out on an amazing cultural experience of the West Indian Islands.

Thanks for reading!

Monique

The Best "Dam" Picture Ever!

During the beginning of August, I went to Las Vegas for the first time to celebrate my birthday. Of course this was going to be an amazing trip. I was going to Vegas for goodness sake! Everyone has an amazing time! Right?! Of course! While I was out there, I made time to conduct some sightseeing and made my way to Hoover Dam. This place was absolutely beautiful. The sky was clear, the weather was great, and the sun was shining bright! As bright as my dress!

That day I wore a bright yellow dress, a four leaf clover earrings, my go to watch, and  a cute chain create out of tragedy.

When I bought this chain, it had beautiful beading at the end of each prong. However, after purchasing it and bringing it home, the chain had broken and I was left with the metal structural component of the chain. I said to myself, "Hey, try it on anyway." I stepped in front of the mirror and saw it was still rather cute without the beading. From that day on, I wear this chain as is and get a lot of compliments.

This day, I paired my dress with a light lace top and cute wine red flats.  The dress was absolutely beautiful without the lace top. However, by adding the lace top, it created a more completed look and added the element of elegance to my outfit. Plus, lace compliments any outfit you wear if styled correctly and helps us to portray our femininity.

I ended my Hoover Dam tour with a visit to Ethel M. Chocolate Factory and a walk in the Cactus garden. A lovely outfit for a lovely day sightseeing in Vegas!

Thanks for reading!

xoxo,

Monique
